Thread Garden, Ooty


Located on the same road as Bout House, Thread Garden offers greenery produced by handweaving colored embroidery threads with canvas and wire. The designs are flawless and the colors more real than the natural flora. They used the technology called " Four-Dimensional hand-wound Embroidery" without needles and machines. It is one of the unique art of creating natural-looking plants and flowers. The flower and plant in the thread garden are more perfect and attractive than the natural flora. The main thing is that the artifacts should be protected from direct sunlight and artificial light. Here are a few important and must-know pieces of information-

How to reach there


Thread Garden is located in Nilgiri district and is 1km from the Ooty bus stand. There are a few ways to reach the Thread Garden. One can either have a walk till the garden or else one can take the facility of local buses, auto-rickshaw or taxi. Thread Garden is located on the same road as that of Boat House, Ooty Lake.


Fee and Timing


The entry fee for Thread Garden is Rs. 30 for adults and Rs.15 for a kid (5-15 years). If anyone wants to carry a camera, the fee for a still camera is Rs.50 and for a video camera is Rs.100. Thread Garden is open every day from 9 AM to 5PM.


Specialty


The whole creation is made using our self invented the technology of 'Four Dimensional hand-wound Embroidery', unknown hitherto without needles or machinery. Developed and perfected through many scientific and artistic observations and experiments and consuming thread measuring a mind-boggling 60 million meters in length, Thread Garden is made challenging a machine-like perfection with the skillful effort of 50 specially trained artists.

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore (VITM), a constituent unit of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, was established in memory of Bharat Ratna Sir M.
