Rock Beach, Pondicherry
Pondicherry, a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union Territory town bounded by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Pondicherry is a tourist destination in South India. The city has many colonial buildings, churches, temples, and statues which, combined with the systematic town planning and planned French style avenues, still, preserve much of the colonial ambiance. While the sea is a draw for tourists, Pondicherry no longer has the sandy beaches that once graced its coastline. One of the famous beaches is Rock Beach in the White Town (French colonial-era).

How to Reach
One of the few ways to reach the Rock beach is one can simply take an auto-rickshaw from the Pondicherry Bus Stand, which is 2.5km away from the beach. Another way to reach there is by hiring a scooter or bike and make their way using Google Maps.
Visitor duration
The trail of the Rock Beach is 1.5 km long and for the full excursion of its premises, we would suggest around 2 hours. The best time to visit the beach is in the late evening or night when traffic is restricted.
Pros
- Food- On the tracks of the beach there are many options when it comes to eating and choice of cuisines. Few of the must-try are Le Café, Sicilys, Gelataria Montecatini Terme. Le Café is the most popular among all the others.
- Long peripheral walking arena- It is a 1.2-kilometer-long, rock-lined stretch, edged by a long walkway and surrounded by colonial buildings. Long walks and jogging are the norms here, so grab a pal and be sure to see everything this stretch has to offer.
- Calm atmosphere in the evening- During the evening, vehicle entry is completely prohibited, providing ample space to the visitors to sit back, relax or stroll in peace and quiet.
- Park- Dupleix Park offers a play area for kids. It is a well-maintained park, located at seaside in Pondicherry. This is one of the perfect places in the city to spend some leisure time with friends and family.
- Street shopping- Pondicherry is famous for Cluny embroidery, jewelry, hand-made products, wood works, and furniture. And they are the common exhibits in the street shopping.
Cons
- Avoid walking in the noon- Temperature and humidity in Pondicherry can be pretty high during typical summer noon and most of the cafes in the trail are closed at that time.
Nirvana Tips
- Food- We suggest you to must try food items like ice cream in Gelataria Montecatini Terme and coffee, masala omlete in Le Café which can be enjoyed with sunset/sunrise.
- Visit in the evening- Since the trail has gardens, park and to enjoy the garden, it would be better to visit in the evening.
