Ooty Lake is also called as Ooty Boat House is located in Ooty in the Nilgiris district and 1 km from Ooty bus stand. It is an artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan, in 1824. Ooty Lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees and greenery all around and is a great place to experience the beauty of this hill station. How to reach there
Ooty Lake is located in Nilgiri district and is 1km from the Ooty bus stand. There are a few ways to reach Ooty Lake. One can either have a walk till the lake or else one can take the facility of local buses, auto-rickshaw or taxi.
Visitor Duration
The maximum width and length of the lake are 140 meters and 2,500 meters respectively and to full excursion of its premises, we would suggest you take 3-4 hours.
History
Being an artificial lake, the water flowing down mountain streams in the Ooty valley was dammed to form the lake. The lake was originally intended to be used for fishing with ferries being used to travel across the lake. It gradually shrunk from its original size giving place to the current bus stand racecourse, and the lake park.

- Boat House- This being an apt place for a person who prefers boating. Boating is the prime attraction at the lake. The boathouse offers boating facilities with Paddle boats, Rowboats, and Motorboats.
- Food- One can find many small vendors or restaurants to catch up with exciting food.

- Shops- One can spot a lot of shops selling local items like eucalyptus oils and shawls at competitive prices around the lake.

- Unclean- Though the lake is mostly clean, one can spot dirt in the lake.
