Government Rose Garden, Ooty


Ooty Rose Garden is a mesmerizing garden in the heart of the town of Ooty, in Tamil Nadu. It is also known as the Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, the Nootrandu Roja Poonga and the Centenary Rose Park. The different shades of the garden make it feel like a different world as one takes a walk around the garden. It is a perfect place for the people who are much interested in Botany, not only because of different varieties of roses but also due to the different cross-breeding they implement. How to reach there

It is located in the Elk Hill slope in Ooty. There are a few ways to reach the garden. One of the common is by taking any auto-rickshaw from Ooty Bus Stand. The Garden is properly accessible by road from any part of the Ooty.

Visitor Duration

The Garden is divided into five terraces and to full excursion of its premises, we would suggest you take 2-3 hours.



Timing

The garden is open all the days from 9 AM to 6 PM. Though it may be closed due to bad weather or any important function.



Terraces

There are five terraces in the Garden, which are following-


  • First Terrace: The first terrace compromises of miniature rose garden which is located just below the approach road to the garden.


  • Second Terrace: Being the largest of all terraces, the second terrace compromises of different varieties and colors of roses along with different grasses. This terrace also has the Nilamaadam from where the entire Rose Garden can be viewed.

  • Third Terrace: The third terrace has a different elegantly designed terrace. This terrace accommodates about 170 different rose varieties.

  • Fourth Terrace: The fourth terrace is in a rectangular shape and planted with beautiful varieties of the roses on either side.

  • Fifth Terrace: The fifth terrace has few seating areas to observe nature.

  • Educational- The garden provides an apt knowledge of how cross-breeding works as there are many crossbreeds of tea with roses.



  • Walking- Walking through the beautiful garden which will make one awestruck.

  • Authentic Indian Food- In the surrounding area, there are some amazing restaurants that serve authentic Indian food.

  • Seasonal- Though most of the roses are seasonal, one may not be able to view the elegance beauty in every season.
